Description of Classes

Ballet -- A structured form of classical dance characterized by the grace and precision of movement and elaborates formal gestures, steps and poses.

Jazz -- A structured form of exaggerated motion with influences of ballet techniques, commonly used in Broadway shoes.

Tap -- A structured form of motion that produces a lively, rhythmic sound by the dancer's shoes.

Hip Hop -- A freestyle form of modern dance that is usually accompanied by Rap, R&B or Pop music and performed with a high level of energy and attitude.

Combo Classes -- A combination sampler class consisting of equal amounts of Ballet, Jazz and Tap that is geared toward our youngest dancers. We also offer other combo classes for older dancers consisting of two dance styles.

**The following classes we hope to offer in the near future when our studio expands:

*Lyrical -- The Lyrical dance style has its primary basis in ballet, combining the many technical elements of classical ballet with the freedom, fluidity, expressiveness and airier aspects of jazz, contemporary and modern dance. Lyrical dance is expressive, simultaneously subtle and dynamic, focused on conveying musicality and emotion through movement. It is a combination of intricate, highly technical, and pedestrian/naturalistic moves. It is commonly set to popular music with vocals as well as rich are (indeed, often) emphasized over the song's rhythm, but because of the definition of the word lyrical, choreography can be gripping and exquisitely delicate, at the same time

*Contemporary -- A contemporary class combining the form and function of technique (pairing earthy/grounded concepts of modern dance with ballet and popular dance styles) with an inventive movement vocabulary. This multi-level class is comprised of: center barre work in parallel and turned out positions-emphasizing clean technique and alignment, across the floor combinations, and class combinations. Music selections spaneras and styles.

*Pointe – Pointe class may be taken by students who are not yet on pointe to further develop and strengthen the muscles necessary to go on pointe. Readiness for pointe work is determined by each student’s strength and physical development, not by their age. The instructor will advise parents when a student has the necessary strength and maturity to go on pointe. Pointe class may be taken only with the permission of the instructor.

*Musical Theater/Glee -- A modern style of Jazz dance most notably seen in Broadway shows such as Oklahoma, West Side Story, Sound of Music, Cats, Cabaret, Chicago, All That Jazz and many more.
